Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi is the current Sajjada Nasheen of Shrines of Hazrat Ghous Bahauddin Zakriya Multani (Rehmatullah Allhai) & Hazrat Shah Rukn e Alam (Rehmatullah Allhai). Multani Faqeers- the term used for Ghousia Jamaat, visit villages and towns to spread Sufism by chanting the slogans of Hazrat Ghous Bahauddin Zakariya of Multan, their “murshid” (spiritual leader). They would stay in the villages for a few days, listen to people’s problems and offer ijtamai dua (collective prayers) to resolve them. The “Sajjada Nashin” of the murshid- his direct descendent, would nominate the local representatives of the jamaat, known as “khalifa” (caliph), who had an influential role in their communities. They used to visit their people and other places as well to spread the message of their saint and were involved in the matters of the people. The Sajjada Nashin would visit an area once a year and inquire his followers about their problems. Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya R.A (1170-1267) was a Sufi of Suhrawardiyya order (tariqa). His full name was Al-Sheikh Al-Kabir Sheikh-ul-Islam Baha-ud-Din Abu Muhammad Zakaria Al-Qureshi. Sheikh Baha-ud-Din Zakariya known as Bahawal Haq was born at Kot Kehror (Karor Lal Eason), a town of the Layyah District near Multan, Punjab, Pakistan, around 1170. His grandfather Shah Kamaluddin Ali Shah Qureshi arrived in Multan from Mecca en route to Khwarezm where he stayed for a short while. In Tariqat he was the disciple of renowned Sufi master Shaikh Shahab al-Din Suhrawardi who awarded him Khilafat only after 17 days of stay at his Khanqah in Baghdad. For fifteen years he went from place to place to preach Islam and after his wanderings Bahawal Haq settled in Multan in 1222. Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi is the 32nd Sajjada Nasheen of Dargah Hazrat Ghous Bahauddin Zakriya Multani (Rehmatullah Allhai)…
